I also live in LA and am a big musical theater guy. There's a bar in West Hollywood that does Musicals Mondays weekly - I've never been but have been meaning to check it out. There's also a group at UCB Sunset called Quick and Funny Musicals that write and produce a new, hour long, comedy musical once a month - I'm on that team and we have come up with some very fun shows.
