| I wasn’t going to watch this version because I had seen it off Broadway. But I started looking at it and couldn’t stop! Seeing it again gave me a renewed appreciation for what a jewel this play is. Each character has her own personality, and you get to see them interact under a variety of circumstances. The themes are well developed and thought-provoking: the subtle caste system based on different shades of black; the cost of personal compromises; standing up to a bully; what does it take for a woman to be considered beautiful. Plus real humor. Such a wonderful microcosm! |
