Agreed. It's times like this (and I'd say the same for a number of concept opera productions I've seen) where I just want to say "just write your own show that explores the things you want to present onstage."
Or in this instance, maybe Baby would have worked better? Nick and Pam's trouble conceiving a child is certainly also locked in with the idea that their clocks are ticking - and it seems that everyone can have children except them.
Or maybe not - but in any case, the thing that always bothers me is when a director is very deliberately trying to tell a story different from the one that is written.
