| I was about 19 at the time i think and wasn't keeping track of actual box office, but from where I stood (living in nyc and working on broadway) it was a VERY hotly anticipated new show that was clearly going to be a must-see for musical theater fans and also was primed to hit a very big demographic of women. So maybe I just speculated it would be a hit based on those factors, but I also remember than at least by Tony season it was definitely the goliath (and not because it's quality was so undeniable, which it of course isn't). |
