You're taking away from Julia Roberts' brilliant performance to presume what all of the voters were thinking when they decided to vote for her. "Big shiny movie stars" miss out on the Oscar every year. Eddie Murphy is one of the highest grossing movie stars of all time and he has never won one. Oscars are tough to win. You're competing against hundreds of performances to be the one winner.
