Decades ago, I worked on the casting of the TV pilot for "Sheila Levine is dead and living in New York" based on the book. We cast the wonderful Dori Brenner in the title role (unfortunately, she is no longer with us.) The pilot didn't sell, and the network execs said it was because she was "too Jewish" and we should have cast someone like Susan Dey instead. Go figure!
