For all the pre WW2 shows for which IBDB lists names of actor, but not characters played, I have offered to send the information, I believe I have access to records with which fill in the blanks on 85-90% of these shows. No one gets back to me.
That said - REDHEAD is one of my favorite more or less forgotten musicals - while checking out a cast member on IBDB a couple of years ago, I noticed that on the Awards tab for REDHEAD, they listed Leonard Stone as a nominee for Best Featured Actor in a Musical in 1959. I knew he had actually won that award.
I dug up the morning after NY Times article about those 1959 Tonys at the Waldorf-Astoria - and found that there had been a tie in the category that year... Russel Nype won for GOLDILOCKS, and Leonard Stone also won, for REDHEAD. It was kind of a big deal at the time. (The League had also published a book about the Tonys, in which they already had acknowledged Mr Stone as a winner)
I contacted IBDB, and sent them the NY Times clip, and suggested that they correct the listing, and identify Mr Stone as a Tony Winner for REDHEAD, not a nominee. It took almost two months for the correction to be made. |
