| I hate to break the news to you but everything in the theatre is just an "idea" of what it represents. This may sound like a joke, but it is not only true but also an important aspect of how one evaluates theatre. The contrary expectation fuels a great deal of the verisimilitude mindset that obstructs the full appreciation of the art form. The glory of theatre is its expression of "ideas." Every so often it is not a bad idea to reboot one's expectations by rereading the prologue of Henry V. |
