The woman confuses me in the play.
Especially since I think she was based on Antonia Fraser, with whom Pinter had an affair and then whom he managed to marry. So Pinter’s sort of Jerry. But he wrote the play with it not working out. Hmm.
The woman in the play seems too lacking in conviction.
I wonder how Bette Davis would’ve played it? (My rule of thumb when considering a woman’s role that seems ungrounded in motive.)
The midpoint reversal with the husband makes the play interesting.
The movie is excellent; the two actors are perfection; the actress falls short because of the role’s passivity. |
