Not the same as a boy aging into young adulthood, which was important to Boyhood.: I see your point, and I don't necessarily disagree, but I would say the "gimmick" itself is quite a powerful marketing hook, as it was for BOYHOOD. |

| It would be a better hook to be able to say the actors got younger over those years, like the characters do. | |

Indeed :-) As a friend pointed out, you take a big risk when making a movie over several years, hoping that nothing bad is going to happen to any of the principals. It wasn't exactly the same situation with BOYHOOD, because that was a fictional story and also it was made in chronological order, rather than reverse, so they could have written out any actor who had died (heaven forbid) or become unavailable for some reason. |
