Moulin Rouge OBC is out now...

Just having a midnight listen as it because available on streaming sites just now. I loved the show and I am having a great time listening to this, although I would still say don’t listen to it or look at a track listing if you intend to see the show. It’s better to have the surprises of the songs and orchestrations the first time I think...

Definitely a fun recording... Link to NYT article from July about all the songs, getting the rights, etc.

Leon_W, I couldn't agree more. Aaron Tveit and Karen Olivo especially sound ''Spectacular, Spectacular,'' and their marvelous mashups capture the show's wildly romantic and can-can-do enthusiasm. Kudos to Justin Levine, ''Moulin Rouge's'' music supervisor, orchestrator and arranger; he oversaw the fun collection and selection of this joyous jukebox of pop songs.

It's sure to be a wonderfully worthy and top contender for next year's Grammy for Musical Theatre Album.

I saw the show tonight and my biggest issue is that the boozy crowd knew the songs a bit too well. There was a lot of singing along, texting (as though at a concert), and even a few times - hands in the air. Karen Olivio was brilliant, and the show could not have been more lavish. I’m off to listen to the cast recording and hopefully become more familiar with some of the songs. (And FYI, I’m in my thirties.)

Also, the only thing I really missed from the film was “One Day I’ll Fly Away.” Ah, well.

Revisiting 'One Day' and welcoming a new 'Come What May'

From Entertainment Weekly:

Satine’s ballad “One Day I’ll Fly Away” is gone, which Justin Levine says was a function of where they needed an “I Want” song for her to take place within the action. “In our version, Satine is less concerned about leaving the club behind and more driven to save the club and to use her star power to actually save her family,” he says. “That moment became more about her having to amp herself up and psych herself up to basically come through for her loved ones and her family at the Moulin Rouge.” In that case, the somber tone and yearning for escape inherent to the onscreen ballad no longer jibed with the storytelling.

Meantime, ''Moulin Rouge!'' has released a 2nd track on YouTube: Tveit and Olivo singing ''Come What May.''

Thank you for your reply! I don’t fault the choice per se, but your post clarified where I found a disconnect. Maybe I wanted her to fly away and be less loyal to Harold? Nevertheless, I enjoyed the spectacle.

Also, I apologize for putting an extra “i” in Ms. Olivo’s surname. She’s a treasure.
