| It is indeed hard to believe how much time has gone by since the original production. Just sorry that Hal Prince will not be there. This is certain to add excitement to the season and I’m glad they are putting it in the Jacobs. | |

| April 25 was 2019's cutoff date. If the 2020 awards are June 7, keeping the same distance would make the cutoff April 23. |

| Hate to be this guy, but I doubt very much Prince would like this production at all. I think he'd like that the show keeps being reinvented and reaching and touching and entertaining new audiences... but that's probably it. And the sluggish direction of the show, and confusing direction of the scenes, would probably displease him a lot given that he was known for the opposite as a director. | |

| Sluggish direction of the show? Confusing direction of the scenes? Not any of the three times I saw it. Other than the unnecessary dance montage for Another Hundred People (wehich I know some liked), I thought the show fired on all cylinders. |

| Yes, as you may recall we been mortal enemies / polar opposites in our opinions of this Company. I imagine that won't change. Though I do think Lenk will be a much better fit as an actor, so I'm excited to see her in it. | |

| Agreed. I had some bones to pick with it, and I will say that I felt it didn't hold up particularly well on a return viewing, but there was nothing 'sluggish' about the pacing, either at a late preview or a month or so before the end of the run, and there was certainly nothing 'confusing' about the way the scenes were directed. | |

| We must have seen different shows. Never has Company felt SO LONG to me before - not just because of the pacing and unnecessary scene changes moments added everywhere, but because of laser sharp focus on the PLAY and the scenes that make it up have changed in ways that do not as properly support a clear set of relationships with the couple and internal struggles for Bobby. We fully disagree on this, and that's fine. But even the friend I saw it with who liked it more than I did agree it felt much slower than usual. And with a show like that, extra unneeded time puts unwelcomed pressure on the show scene by scene to be new and amount to "enough" to make it worth the time, and things that are developing a theme just start seeming redundant in a slower show or longer running time. |

| "And with a show like that, extra unneeded time puts unwelcomed pressure on the show scene by scene to be new and amount to "enough" to make it worth the time, and things that are developing a theme just start seeming redundant in a slower show or longer running time." What "extra time"? The running time was pretty much exactly the same as the last stage production of the show I saw (Sheffield Crucible, 2010, with Daniel Evans as Bobby and Francesca Annis as Joanne; Rosalie Craig played April) - and also, actually, pretty much exactly the same as the running time of the Neil Patrick Harris DVD. |

| Exactly. A few book scenes might have benefited from a slightly faster pace, but the need was negligible. | |

| If Prince were still here, there's a good chance that he would not go to see it. He wrote in Sense of Occasion that he rarely went to see revivals of the musicals he had directed. "Excellent as I'm sure so many of them are, I retain an impression of the original, and often I miss the metaphor which informed the original production." Of course, he might still have been pleased that Company was still getting done, but that seems like something that would please Sondheim more. Whether this version would please Furth is something we'll never know. |

| Do we know if he saw either of the two Broadway revivals prior to this one? He was a better man than I am...I'd be insanely curious about how others had interpreted something that I had a hand in shaping, if only to be able to intelligently talk to my friends about how they missed the point. |

| Smart casting. Lenk, however entrancing, has that odd-girl-out quality which should make her Bobbie’s singleness make sense. Probably a no-brainer since she just won a big prize. But I think it’s very smart. |
