| People are upset on FB, but "Chorus Line" ain't "Gypsy." Have you read the script lately? It's very much of its era, and its forced show biz and rotten childhood jokes can feel flat and dated. As does its arch earnestness in places, which has a strong whiff of the seventies. Why not turn it into a series? And give it a reboot? The last B'way revival was notable mostly for pulling off some overdue diversity (Sheila); but -- IMO -- museum quality staging recreating the original step-by-step only makes the show feel older, now. I say, go for it. Remint it and use that still wonderful score. |
