When the Roundabout revived THE MYSTERY OF EDWIN DROOD a few years back, I wished that they'd done a performance or two that included all the possible combinations of resolutions, instead of having the audience vote. There are a lot of those variations that I've never seen performed and some of the choices seem to be tried and true ones that audiences pick a lot of the time. The way I'd envisioned it would be that they would, for example, reveal one character as the murderer and, when that section ends, reset to the cue and reveal another character as the murderer. It could be that with all the combinations of lovers and killers and detectives that doing this would take entirely too long and the audience wouldn't be interested, but, as a fan of the material, I would have reveled in the chance to see some of these variations.
