Too bad, though, that in this production, they speed up the tempo of "Ribbons Down My Back" to the point where Herman's interesting rhythms all have to be re-invented and backphrased. A waste of a beautiful song that's being given the "the audience will get bored with a ballad" treatment. Not much better with "It Only Takes A Millisecond."
I saw the Buckley cast a few weeks ago and loved the production and the performances. But I missed the sexiness and allure and beauty of Herman's ballads. A few metronome makings less wouldn't have killed anyone. |
