I love "World Take Me Back," Herman's great Dolly song for Merman, but it's hard for me to fathom how it fits in with "Before the Parade Passes By." They are two entreaties -- invocations -- to find fresh reasons to get up every morning; when they were in the same act it had to seem as if Dolly was a woman subjected to recurring epiphanies.
