I thought Josh Henry was superb - but the story (what there is of it) doesnt actually track or make sense. What I got from it was how brilliant Lin Manuel Miranda is in Hamilton - because for me, in THE WRONG MAN, the music has no character for the characters - any music in the show could be set to any lyrics for any character. And the lyrics repeat and repeat and repeat the same words - which is reductive (I have to stay posi-div, I have to stay posi-div, I have to stay posi-dov, I have to stay posi-div, etc etc' (Yes it might have been 'I have to be posi-div, buyt you get the point). This is the trap of 'pop' hip hop and rap, that Mr Miranda avoided in HAMILTON by actually writing a musical with characters, and a plot informed by and driven by the music. King George, Hamilton, Burr, the Schuyler sisters, Lafayette, Jefferson - their music defines their characters, music and dance advance the plot. In THE WRONG MAN they just sing words, and dance for no reason. To me, it would be delusional to tale this show to Broadway . Just me. I also thought taking BE MORE CHILL to Broadway delusional. And we know how that worked out. MCC has produced a work by some young artists, not without interest, which is the job of not for profits - I commend them for it.
