Overall, it could use a few tweaks here and there but not much. The audience loved it and I think in the big picture is most important. A new audience was exposed to the production that may have not ever seen it. Believe it or not.
At the beginning of Act 2, Fisher did a quick intro/bio of each performer and then revealed that the 3 Dallas performances were the world premiere. Audience was ecstatic.
While I felt the overture was one song too long, it was ‘symphonic’, but Fisher had jazzy brass aspects sprinkled throughout the piece.
The rest of the score worked out quite well.
For the future, I would recommend adding 2-4 dancers for the Roxie, Jail House Tango, All I need is Love, All that Jazz numbers. But I totally understand going into this lean and mean as a test to see if it works as a package. Yes it does.
Bianca Marroquin demonstrated throughout that she knew the Fosse choreography inside and out which made an audience member like me wanting more.
I’ll be interested to see what Fisher does with this going forward. I’m really glad we got to see it at the beginning stages.
