|You are not reading my post very carefully. I specifically said full frontal nudity, excessive foul language. I didn't say it was common -- I said it was not unusual. I also singled out Steppenwolf as an equity theater that does not alter controversial content.
In recent years I have observed that equity theaters in Chicago like Goodman (in 3 shows), Victory Gardens (in 1 show), Court (in 2 shows), and Cadillac Palace (in 1 touring production) either eliminated or toned down nudity, altered dialogue, or eliminated a vulgar action.
There was a period of time (probably 5 to 10 years ago), when several non-equity Chicago theaters were not shy about featuring full frontal nudity and very graphic sexual activity (some of which was rumored to be not simulated). That seems to have changed in the wake of the Profiles Theatre scandal. In the last couple of years I have seen productions of Yank!, Bonnie & Clyde, and probably others that have totally eliminated the nudity that was present in the Broadway or off-Broadway productions.
Steppenwolf has at least 3 different performing stages and probably does around 15 shows a year. I have seen over 100 plays or shows there, but obviously I haven't seen everything. Other than Linda Vista, what plays have you seen at Steppenwolf that featured nudity?
