I had the great good fortune to become an acquaintance (friend would be too strong a word) and host him to my productions, and see most of his. Even host him to brunch in my home. And be a second assistant on his production of TRISTAN UND ISOLDE in Los Angeles, meaning working side by side with David Hockney, and meeting folk like Louis Jordan, and Zubin Mehta who conducted. He was brilliant, kind, funny, charismatic, and unfairly talented. His book, SUBSEQUENT PERFORMANCES is as seminal in my life and career as Peter Brook's THE MPTY SPACE is. And lets not forget his brilliance as a performer in BEYOND THE FRINGE. And his various TV series. RIP to a great, generous, talented, Rennaissance man.
