Smith had very little to do in the Harry Potter films after the first one...her role in subsequent films always seemed like luxury-cast cameos. And, while her performance in DOWNTON ABBEY (both the series and the film) is delicious, it's nothing she can't do with her eyes closed and one hand tied behind her back. I can definitely see how neither role offered much to an actress of her caliber besides a paycheck.

It's ironic that these are the projects for which Smith will likely be remembered by future generations.
