***I think the "family film" descriptive makes all the difference in the world - "adult musicals" rarely last as long as family-friendly ones. The successful ones ("Band's Visit") proudly close up shop and move on, whereas "Lion King" roars into its billionth year. There aren't a ton of options for families that aren't strictly kiddie fare, and "Doubtfire" has potential to join the ranks. I don't think "Tootsie" producers did enough to let general audiences know that the story had been updated - the title feels firmly rooted in the past. Something about a soap opera? Pass. "Doubtfire" is about parenting and divorce, and those themes don't age.****

I would say that you make your points much more strongly and clearly than Riedel did. Thanks!
