***Last I heard, Robin Williams won’t be involved in the stage musical, and most people’s affection for the film is based on him. The question is, how many people watched Mrs. Doubtfire and thought, “you know what would make this movie even better? Have someone else play the Robin Williams role, and add a lot of songs.”***

An excellent point. When you have MRS. DOUBTFIRE minus Robin Williams, the question is, will the central story concept still be entertaining enough to get large numbers of people to buy tickets for a stage musical version with someone else in the role. It seems the answer in regard to TOOTSIE was "no," so we'll see what happens with this one.
