In Melbourne on holiday and caught the Melbourne Theatre Company production of KISS OF THE SPIDERWOMAN starring Australian musical theatre star Caroline O’Connor.
A great production (with excellent use of projections) with a stellar performance by Ainsley Melham. Adam-Jon Fiorentino was less successful as Valentin (and was perhaps suffering from some sort of vocal distress). O’Conner was in superb voice and generally excellent though I felt she missed the mark as the Spiderwoman. It was also disappointing that she isn’t really a dancer. The choreography was a “meh” - not bad, but certainly forgettable. The (very) reduced orchestration sounded great.
In reference to the below K&E thread, this is certainly an ambitious work with a generally excellent score but a number of structural problems.
