Thanks.

I remember having this discussion with someone else here. Different season. And this person was arguing that there WAS still a "Special Event" category or some such thing, and that if a show filed itself as that, then it wasn't eligible.

(The show in question was perhaps the Ruben and Clay Christmas show, or some such thing - a show that played for enough performances, and (I believe) invited voters (it invited DD voters, so I would assume it invited Tony voters). But then the Administration Committee never mentioned it in any press release, and I was wondering why. And this person argued it was because the show wasn't a musical - it was a "Special Event.")

I agree that both shows "are" musicals, in the sense that (from what I understand) in the Tony Awards categories, you have to be either one or the other. But I'm not sure this truly answers my question. Certainly, if both shows did NOT invite Tony voters (do we know this for sure? or is just conjecture based on the Committee not releasing any statement that it considered these shows?), the question is moot for, at least for these two shows.

But I'm really asking a larger question - IS there such a category of "Special Event" (in some Broadway League filing or whatever, that we the public don't see) that, by default, makes your show not eligible for awards? Or was that poster just making things up?

I really wish the Administration Committee would just answer this question for any show that runs long enough where it could conceivably be Tony-eligible. There are only 1-2 a year, at most.
