A few observations:
1. The admin committee can do whatever it wants EXCEPT violate the rules it established for a season. (That's the stuff lawsuits are made of.) They can always give "special Tonys" and there are enough categories of these in the rules to allow anything to be awarded for any reason. (I don't think that's what you are asking about.)
2. There is an eligibility criteria that you left out above. The "production must be, in the judgment of the Tony Awards Administration Committee, a legitimate theatrical production." That is how they exclude concerts and other things.
3. You seem to confound the admin committee and the nomination committee about halfway through the above. The latter simply deals with the cards they are dealt.
4. Shows do not have to be addressed unless there is something to address. Silence means there is nothing to address. To be eligible, a show must satisfy all of the requirements.
I went to see my friend's son's school play recently. It felt like it played the requisite number of performances while I was sitting there. But I digress. |
