why did Jerome Robbins Co-Direct THE PAJAMA GAME but let Fosse do the choreography?

I never realized until right now that George Abbott only co-directed this, and he did so with Jerome Robbins. Why on earth did Robbins not want to (or perhaps not agree to) do choreography too? Not saying I wish Fosse hadn't, his choreography for this show is fantastic. But... it makes me wonder.
