| Yes, Gideon sings both songs now, and Oliver Savile has a gorgeous voice. I am at my winter residence and don't have access to my Playbill from the Broadway version to make a comparison of song placement and omissions and additions. "Show Some Respect" is now the last song in the show before a final reprise of "The Last Ship." While it still makes reference to a funeral (don't want to have spoilers here for those who may be seeing it in L.A.), it becomes more of an anthem for Peggy and the shipbuilders, rather than a boisterous song at Peggy's bar. I saw The Last Ship when Jimmy Nail was playing Jackie White, but I think that part has been very much rewritten for this production. It gives Sting a very emotional scene in Act II, which showed his acting ability to perfection. I wish I had my cast recording and Playbill here to spark my memory of where other differences occur. There is a new song called "All This Time," which is sung by Ellen, Meg's daughter. Will be seeing another greatly revised musical, Ballroom, on the 15th at the CVRep in Cathedral City near Palm Springs. I've heard good to mixed things about it, and the original song writers have participated in the revisions, adding new songs and restoring dropped ones. Teri Ralston, the original Jenny in Company, is in it, though not as Bea, and Marcia Rodd is in the cast, too. |
