Angela Lansbury was (of course) gracious in her brief video. But she did, unfortunately say that Jerry Herman had given her her first role on the musical stage. Well, it was her first successful show and the one that made her a bonafide Broadway star.
There was a lovely story from a long time friend Alice Borden who recounted previewing 4 songs written "on spec" in front of David Merrick in his infamous Satan-red office. And Herman's goddaughter had kind words for the care taken by Herman's husband, Terry during his long illness. |
