Jim, this production restored much of what was cut from the “Queen of the Stardust Ballroom” script, so as to focus on the lead character’s emotional journey after a year of widowhood. It took out all of the disco music, leaving in only traditional ballroom dancing moves. If I remember correctly, it was only “touch” dancing that was shown in the choreographed numbers - I don’t remember any “swing” dancing or jitterbug moves.
I had a question earlier in the thread that you might be able to answer: “Ballroom” was nominated in several Tony categories, but its score was not nominated. I speculated that the score might not have been eligible, as some of it first appeared in the TV special, “The Queen of the Stardust Ballroom.” Do you recall if that was the case? The book was nominated, but not the score.
Thanks,
