If I thought of any other show when I saw it at the Public, it was Joe Turner’s Come and Gone. MacPherson seemed to have been inspired by it, and wrote this multi-racial tribute.
It was a curious experience, a hybrid of a show, but its cumulative effect was quite moving. It did not strike me as a Broadway piece, but Broadway still surprises on occasion. |
