Oh my god - what were they thinking ! I saw show at public - Oskar should have known better then to followed NY times review down the rabbit hole
Not one organic or original idea in show . Just to pull out a few - first we are introduced to a black character who " is on the run" later in show he sings Hurricane about a guy who's accused of a crime he hadn't done . Also boy meets girl plot ??we only know this because they sing I want you .
Nothing prior supports this. Worst of all and the the most creatively criminal aspect of this show is that the production takes out ALL the poetry of Dylan's lyrics in the musical numbers .This Production will despite the continuing good reviews that will most likely follow it to Broadway will in my opinion also get mostly negative word of mouth from folks who pluck down their hard earned money to see this musical . Conor McPherson is a talented playwright but this is way, way, above his pay grade . Although to be fair to him , Dylan's team reached out to him and offered him the opportunity to create the show .
Ultimately it's the Public theaters hubris that this Production transferred along with of course the many investors who just follow the reviews instead of seeing what's actually in front of them
