Good question. The Cocteau was a good example; it was actually when they started transitioning to being an Equity theatre that the company began its decline, and they went out of business a couple years afterwards.
I actually can't think of many professional Off Broadway companies still operating. Possibly the Players Theatre in the Village?
Is the Wooster Group really Non-Equity? I didn't know that...
