| Ken Mandlebaum's book A Chorus Line and the Musicals of Michael Bennett has a full chapter on Ballroom. If you can find a copy, it contains a lot of information on how the Broadway show came about. On Broadway, Marlene and Nathan were the house singers at the Stardust Ballroom. Combined they perform 7 songs of the show's score, and in addition there are 2 instrumental numbers. These musical numbers are not book songs and have little relation to the story of Bea and Alfred. That may explain why the score did not receive a Tony nomination. |
