Some of us have begged for this shift in strategy -- sell the vivid show we have in front of us, not its London reputation or historically contextualizing shots of rooftops. I saw it this morning, and was taken with the ad's use of one of Part 2's biggest moments, now belonging to Goldwyn. They've gone from withholding everything to showing anything that might put butts in seats. I don't think anyone knew how to market this piece, and these abrupt changes indicate a try anything now approach. I'm not complaining, but it's too bad that the very human and immediate look and feel of the show was kept under wraps so long. For many, it's a visceral emotional experience, not (just) a cerebral celebration of LGBTQ struggle. To my thinking, the novelistic storytelling is what would sell tickets.
