54 Below, before it became Feinstein's 54 Below, was a classy, reasonably affordable cabaret experience. Since Feinstein's participation it is slowly become the overpriced, elitist experience that Feinstein's at the Regency was. 54 now has extra fees, regardless of whether or not you reserve by phone.
Now, we will have the "Diamond" event $300 per person, plus fees. Its not whether or not you can afford it. Its whether or not you want to. Its also further killing cabaret in NYC. Its important to note that many, if not all, of the performers who play 54, also play other venues slightly outside on NYC (Jersey, Long Island, Eastern PA). There are other opportunities to see these talents at much less $$. |
