| Last night, the Academy Awards featured Anthony Ramos standing in the aisle to introduce Lin-Manuel Miranda, onstage, as a presenter. Ramos was lauding Miranda for giving him his big [Broadway] break in ''Hamilton.'' But did any announcer introduce Ramos before he spoke or mention he'll be starring as Usnavi in the upcoming movie of ''In the Heights''? Or did I miss it? Unless you knew who Ramos is, it looked so random to have one presenter introduce another presenter (especially when time is limited). Then Miranda introduced a screen medley of musical moments in movies, which led to an equally random appearance by Eminem. He did ''Lose Yourself,'' his Oscar-winning song from ''8 Mile'' from 2002 (!). It was baffling (to me) why it was being reprised last night 18 years later. Anyway, he wasn't the only rapper around. During the Oscarcast, Utkarsh Ambudkar, who starred on Broadway in ''Freestyle Love Supreme,'' did a rap recap of the festivities thus far. He also did a shoutout about ''my twin, Lin; next year, 'In the Heights' is guaranteed a win'' (at the Academy Awards). Final footnote: Hildur Gudnadottir won an Oscar for her score to ''Joker.'' That'll join her Emmy and Grammy (for ''Chernobyl''), which she's won in the past 5 months. I wonder if she's got a Broadway musical ready to be produced because all she needs is a Tony to get her EGOT. |
