Ramos was introduced by name. I think the notion of interposing the actors was that there was no host.
Sometimes (as with the Tonys) it is well to remember that the show operates on several levels, including marketing and putting on a show in the room. If some of the nominated songs had no intro, then I agree that seems like a weird omission. Michael mentions below that there was no intro to the opening piece but this was not about the nominations and I think it is reasonable to assume that the audience arrives with a certain body of knowledge. (Note that the Tonys do this always and I have never heard anyone here kvetch about that, the difference of course being that everyone here is looped in to the Tonys zeitgeist. I also thought that the Eminem surprise was thrilling and that the audience in the hall was overwhelmingly thrilled by it as well.
Am I the only one who thinks Billy Porter is getting repetitive? |
