In terms of Asian representation, the Oscars did much better than usual. (In the past, it was nominal or nonexistent.)
Kelly Marie Tran introduced presenters Diane Keaton and Keanu Reeves, who has a grandma who's Chinese and Hawaiian.
The Oscarcast also featured 2 Indian-Americans: Mindy Kaling, who presented the animated films, and rapper Utkarsh Ambudkar.
Sandra Oh, who's Korean-Canadian, co-presented Hair & Makeup. You could see her in the audience, excited about ''Parasite's'' wins.
Between ''Parasite's'' success at the Oscars and ''The Farewell's'' wins at the Indie Spirits, it was a terrific weekend for Asian film fans.
Now if we could only get Academy voters to single out and actually nominate Asian actors from these acclaimed movies.
''Parasite'' joins ''The Last Emperor'' and ''Slumdog Millionaire'' as Oscar-winning Best Pictures without ANY acting nominations. ;) |
