For the 5 Best Song nominees, Josh Gad introduced Idina Menzel, and Zazie Beets introduced Cynthia Erivo. I think the Chrissy Metz song had an intro flashed on a screen at the theater that was shown on TV, but I found it hard to read. I don't think Randy Newman or Elton John got introduced at all. I'm fairly positive about Randy Newman, because I did not know what the title of the song was before it was announced just before opening the envelope.
So I guess the moral of the story is: if you want to be introduced by another performer, appear on Broadway first!
I think the mid-show rap mentioned In the Heights, but neither Ramos nor Miranda mentioned it by name, IIRC. In general, there was extremely little discussion of upcoming projects by the announcer or the presenters. Usually, that drives some of the pairings of presenters, but not here. |
