She also sang Tatiana, playing a rather young ingenue, in "Eugene Onegin" when she was in her 50s or 60s, and according to critics (and I recall a big NY Times article), quite convincingly.
I think the first time I saw Freni perform was at La Scala in Milan as Alice Ford in a wonderful production by Giorgio Strehler of Verdi's "Falstaff". She was great, of course.
