Is London actors are underpaid. Is nyc twice as expensive than London to live? $2k/wk is $100k a year working the entire year and most 95% of plays don’t provide that stability.
I think the killer in us is marketing costs. Is several hundred thousand dollars for a full page color ad in the nytimes worth it? I get that market needs to get paid, but Super Bowl ads for $6m for 30 seconds is just insane and that probably skews the market for theater advertising in the long run. Actors salaries is a small portion of the running budget of a show and $100k to be in a broadway show is not much of a living salary in nyc. |
