That could be a terrific showcase for Asian-Americans in musical theater.
(And if ''Forbidden Broadway'' parodies the Korean movie, they could sing: ''Take my hand, I'm a stranger in 'Parasite' ... '')
To be serious, I was gonna ask if any Asian movies have been turned into Broadway (or Broadway-bound) musicals, but then I read about this:
Jason Robert Brown is doing the score for a new musical based on ''Farewell My Concubine,'' Chen Kaige's acclaimed 1993 Chinese movie. It's about "two male stars in a Beijing opera troupe and the woman who comes between them." The musical will have a book by Kenneth Lin, and it'll be directed by Moises Kaufman. A reading is reportedly taking place this week. Can't wait to hear who's participating and what Jason's written for it! |
