| I'm taking high school students to London over spring break. the tour company allots for three shows and we have secured The Mousetrap and Wicked. For a third, they have offered either Come From Away (which was just here in Philly and which the kids could easily see in NYC) or The Prince of Egypt. Any word as to whether or not the later is any good? I wanted to take them to see things they couldn't see here but unfortunately my other choices, Matilda, Les Miz, and Mary Poppins were all unavailable. Hence my reluctance to do Come From Away, which I do love! The students I am taking see a lot of musical theatre in Philly and NYC. |

| You might want to check out what's going on t the National Theater. Not everything they do is golden but when they are good they are very good indeed. Same with the Royal Shakespeare Company. It's been so long since I've been to London that I don't know if they bring shows in from Stratford. But I would encourage you to look beyond the West End, especially when the shows are shows you could see in NY or on tour. | |

| Barbican has been getting most Royal Shakespeare transfers. | |

| The better choice is The Prince of Egypt. Although mixed reviews from posters on theatreboard.co.uk Definitely students want to see something new for a change. Wicked has been playing both in N.Y. and London over 17 years and Mousetrap over 50. Why travel over there to see a show currently in N.Y. Mousetrap is another story and the last time I saw it , the house was 25% filled. I believe the owners of the play bought the theatre years ago, so it can play another 50 years. |

| Good points. Also, note that the show is in previews until opening night on Feb 25. The formal reviews will be posted after. | |

| I'm going through a tour company and am kind of at their mercy for what I can get tickets for. None of these would be at the top of my list, but I am going with what I can get. In all honesty, as far as what's going to appeal to these students, there isn't much playing there that isn't also here. | |

| & JULIET at Shaftesbury thea. If available is a hit. Your right about the current situation on the West End with these N.Y. musicals in full force. |

| A couple of great numbers can't save this terribly cheesy, ugly, cruise ship musical. It is terrible. | |

| It has been called a cruise ship musical on theatreboard.co.uk ; like I said mixed but for young students it could be a good discussion to get going. | |

| I would set their expectations of The Mousetrap, I am sure that you know it is a fun play but very old fashioned. It really is like stepping back in time. | |

| Why has the Mousetrap never had a Broadway production? | |

| It seems like a good property based on its London success. I saw a production at the McCarter a few years ago and it was a lot of fun. | |

| I believe there are restrictions on the play that it cannot be performed in New York or be made into a film until after the close of the London production. Of course, back in the 1950's, no one had any expectation that the play would run for 60+ years. If I remember correctly, a film was made at some point with the expectation of being released when the production closed in London, which was assumed to be within the year. If that's true, that film has never been released. |

| It ran Off-Broadway during the 1960-61 season | |

| It opened at the Maidman Playhouse on West 42nd Street on November 5, 1960. In February 1961, it moved to the Greenwich Mews on West 13th Street. It closed on April 23, 1961, after what Variety said was 192 performances. So if there's a prohibition, it happened after that production. And while it may be that no film can be made while the London production is running, I've never heard that there's an unreleased film made decades ago. Maybe there is, but I've never heard that. |
