I believe there are restrictions on the play that it cannot be performed in New York or be made into a film until after the close of the London production. Of course, back in the 1950's, no one had any expectation that the play would run for 60+ years.

If I remember correctly, a film was made at some point with the expectation of being released when the production closed in London, which was assumed to be within the year. If that's true, that film has never been released.
