"Hamilton" on Disney may have some words "muted"

I did think Disney & Hamilton was an odd combination.

I don't really know what's included in PG-13 these days, though.

'I don’t think we’re depriving anyone of anything if we mute an f-bomb here or there to make our rating."

But you put the word in. If it's not a big deal to take it out, why use it at all?

Because it was a creative choice, not a linguistic necessity.

"F&%k the bling!"

This post immediately brought to mind an exchange I had with Lin-Manuel Miranda at the time of the release of the IN THE HEIGHTS cast album. I had noticed that, in the song "96,000," the line "F&%k the bling!," as it had been sung in the show, was changed to "Keep the bling" for the recording. I asked L-MM about this, and he said that was because the "f" word was basically the one word that would prevent air-play and was also verboten in high school productions and other productions involving young people, so that's why the change was made. I'm pretty sure the original line was kept in the show as long as it ran on Broadway, but I'm not 100 percent sure.

Of course, arguably there's a far bigger obscenity included in that same song: the name "Donald Trump."

Ha! It makes one long for the days of "George Bush...is only for now..." doesn't it? ;-)

I think Disney's going to wait to see how In the Heights does and, if it's successful... try to do EXACTLY the same thing content-wise.

Or, Disney could revive the Hyperion name they used for AIDA initially.

Hyperion was used for theater. Touchstone was used for movies. It was because they produced Splash and there was nudity. It was a Disney film but they called it Touchstone Pictures.
