This post immediately brought to mind an exchange I had with Lin-Manuel Miranda at the time of the release of the IN THE HEIGHTS cast album. I had noticed that, in the song "96,000," the line "F&%k the bling!," as it had been sung in the show, was changed to "Keep the bling" for the recording. I asked L-MM about this, and he said that was because the "f" word was basically the one word that would prevent air-play and was also verboten in high school productions and other productions involving young people, so that's why the change was made. I'm pretty sure the original line was kept in the show as long as it ran on Broadway, but I'm not 100 percent sure.
Of course, arguably there's a far bigger obscenity included in that same song: the name "Donald Trump." |
