Headley was pretty clear that she wanted to be a recording artist. She won the Tony for Aida in 2000 and did the Actors Fund Dreamgirls benefit in 2001. Her first album came out in 2002. Aside from appearing as a singer in a movie in 2004, I don't think she did any acting, whether on stage or in film, again until 2012 when she was in The Bodyguard in London.
She had some success as a recording artist, but never had that big hit. But she was nominated for the Grammy for Best New Artist and her first 2 albums went gold. |
