I saw it at ART and loved it. It was a matinee, so maybe there wasn't as much screaming lol - though I do remember some.
Yes, there's little to no plot, and the "resolution" of said minimal plot is rather iffy. I love the score (and the lyrics especially), I'm ok with the jokey nature of the script. I enjoyed the cast, and the onstage band and the guitar/bass players rocking out (the bass player for the ART run is a friend/colleague, so very fun to see her up there). I would agree with the others that are saying this has more of an off-Broadway feel. The show clearly has a lot of hype, so I assume that will sustain the NYC run for a while. Maybe it's not for everyone, but I'll admit to being a fan. (I won't scream, though.) |
