CONTACT was a wonderful show. One of the best I've ever seen and thoroughly original and inventive.

I was glad it won. It deserved Brantley's rave. Maybe it should've been nominated fo rBest Play but regardless, it was fantastic.

I enjoyed the dance/movement work a lot, but for me, only the dance club scene worked on a truly theatrical level. The first section, beautiful as it was, became too much about "how not to get hit when there's a swing coming at you" and the restaurant scene, though I got what it was aiming for, suffered from too much of the "I told you not to fucking move" stuff (i.e. it felt way too one-dimensional theatrically to me).

And the prerecorded score...I know, I know...but as a musician, that hits me in a way it might not bother others. Especially when vocals were involved as well - so that the songs became background (like a film score) instead of an integral theatrical part of the moment. Not as satisfying to me.

Ironically Contact was that rare Broadway musical that really did have a soundtrack recording instead of a cast album.
